It is believed that there is a difference between ghosts and spirits:
ghosts being earthbound and spirits having already moved on and able
to travel back and forth between the earthbound and heavenly realms.
Spirits are "lighter" in nature and because of this, are more advanced in their
knowledge and perception of the universe and possibly how to progress in the
unseen world. Ghosts on the other hand, are perhaps more complicated and
often troubled.
Below are some examples of different types of ghosts and hauntings.
Intelligent
This is an interactive type haunting. We believe in these cases the ghost or ghosts
are connected to or in some way associated with the haunted site for some
reason. The cause for an intelligent haunting may be: 1.The person died
in a traumatic way, i.e., murder, suicide, car accident, etc. 2. The person
feels they have unfinished business. 3. The person feels an injustice
has been done to them. 4. They fear for judgment from the other side.
5. The spirit may have died suddenly and may not realize that they
have died. 6. Guilt.
Evidence indicating an intelligent type of manifestation include: moving objects,
slamming, opening and closing of doors and windows. Peculiar voices,
odors and scents (such as perfume, flowers or baking food),
hiding of objects, music and inexplicable lights. Sometimes, apparitions have
been seen in cases of an intelligent haunting, as well. It is important to
remember that the entities in these cases are the same people that
they were in life and may show frustration at times. Their personalities
remain the same. They had human emotions then and that has not changed.
Residual Haunting
We theorize a residual haunting to be that of a past recurring action in a
haunted location, imprinted on the atmosphere and stored in the
magnetic field in the environment. It is thought that at certain times,
possibly when atmospheric conditions are favorable, this energy is again
released and the activity is played out again, over and over. An example
would be hearing a woman singing in your century old kitchen. As it turns
out, a woman did sing there 90 years ago, unbeknown to you. There
would be nothing to be frightened of, because this "woman" in this certain time
frame is likened to residue; hence the term residual. The residual haunt will play itself
out over and over again, like a tape recorder. Many times however, this energy seems to
wane after an extended period and can briefly pick up again.
Non-human
The non-human type of haunting is exactly that - non-human. This
entity never has been human, and never will be. They are very dangerous in nature,
and have been known to manifest themselves in cases when Ouija boards,
satanic worship and black magic have been performed. Otherwise, this
type of haunting is exceptionally rare to come across.
Poltergeist (sub-type haunting)
The poltergeist is not something we normally term a "haunting" as
the core cause is a human being; usually found to be a young person,
most likely female with pent up stress and anxiety. The manifestations
include: loud rapping and banging noises, strange objects (such as rocks)
falling from the ceiling and objects being thrown about. At times,
the activity can seem violent. At all times, the person at the root of the
activity is present, unknowingly and innocently watching as these manifestations
play out. Poltergeist activity comes on quickly and diminishes just as rapidly, usually
lasting from only days to a few weeks in duration.
