Investigation equipment used
Electro-Magnetic Field meters (EMF meter) - One of the most basic tools in paranormal research.
Electromagnetic fields are all around us; whether natural or man-made. Researchers theorize that in order
for ghosts or spirits to manifest themselves, they must draw out a certain amount of energy from the
surrounding environment. This energy is electromagnetic in origin and can be observed in cases of both
an intelligent as well as a residual haunting. The energy can be measured with the assistance of an EMF
meter. EMF readings are measured in  (milligauss). Anything ranging between 2.5mg and 10mg is usually
noted as paranormal as long as strict protocol has been followed by investigators. It is vital that all other
natural resources are ruled out; i.e., electrical equipment, electrical wiring and power lines, prior to, as
well as during an investigation.
Tri-field Natural EM Meter -
An incredibly useful tool, this device detects changes in extremely weak static (or "natural") electric and
magnetic fields. It is engineered to ignore power lines, appliances and other man-made devices. The
natural EM meter is to remain stationary for the best possible results.
Temperature sensing equipment -
Again, it is theorized, that when paranormal activity is present, it is thought that the energy in the
atmosphere changes. This can be noted physically; usually by a drop in temperature. The infrared laser
thermometer or non-contact IR thermometer, is a tool often used by researchers. We have found them
to be helpful for measuring
surface temperatures; however, they are pricey and should always be used
in conjunction with thermometers that measure ambient air (surrounding air), placed throughout an
investigation site. We suggest the use of a digital hygrometer; a very economical type thermometer that
measures humidity as well as temperature. This can be found at any major retail outlet. We also highly
recommend the use of a thermocouple used in combination with the non-contact IR thermometer in
order to obtain the most accurate data.
Wireless motion sensors -
Wireless motion detectors or sensors are equipped with an audible alarm system that sounds when
something or someone passes within a certain distance of the sensor and can be placed throughout an
investigation site, securing areas from nuisances, whether animal or human. They can also be doubled
as an investigative tool; the theory in this being that the energy of an entity passing by the sensor may
also sound the alarm. Video cameras working in conjunction with wireless motion sensors, are usually
recommended.
Video cameras/35mm cameras/digital cameras -
Of course cameras of all sorts are a crucial part of an investigator's toolbox. Hand-held video cameras
are a great way to live in the moment; however, tripods are also highly recommended. Night shot is
something we use and highly recommend -feature you'll definitely want to look for when shopping for
a video camera.

There has been much debate over which camera type produces the best results in the field of
paranormal photography - the (film camera)35mm or digital camera. Of course, digital is less expensive
because of the lack of film to develop, the results can be seen immediately via the LCD display on the
back of the camera, hundreds of photos can be stored through the disk, and the photos can be
uploaded onto a computer for up-close examination. They do provide some good results for
paranormal investigators, although the photos must be highly scrutinized. They are also more
susceptible to false "orb" anomalies that have nothing to do with the paranormal whatsoever.   35mm
photos, on the other hand, provide a negative. Negatives can be much more easily analyzed for fraud
and can be "blown up" to a large degree, without the distortion that a digital camera would emphasize.
35mm photos have their drawbacks too, including: price for development, leaks in the film and faults in
the development process. Although this doesn't seem to be a common occurrence, it can happen.
Overall, both camera types are good choices for paranormal research. After all is said and done, it is up
to the researcher to make the final call regarding photographic evidence.

*We use a variety of digital and 35mm cameras in all different price ranges. We have even used the very
inexpensive disposable 35mm camera and captured an unexplainable photo (
see here); proving that
sometimes the most basic equipment is all that is needed.
Barometer -
Rapid changes in barometric pressure, can at times, signify paranormal activity; of course they can also
signify weather changes in the environment. They can be used in conjunction with ion counters for a
more accurate reading. Some barometers come in a wristwatch form
.
K-2 Meter (also called K-II and K2) -
In theory, EMF meters sense electromagnetic fields that an entity gives off as it manifests itself. On the
K2 meter, it is believed that if a question is asked, the LED lights will flash twice for yes, once for no
(Chris Flemming's theory). With the K2 meter, researchers administer the same protocols that they do
for other EMF meters (see EMF meter). We are still working with and researching the K2 meter and will
update regularly.
