EVP Research When we first discovered Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), some of our group members doubted its existence, thinking these people were either crazy, seeking attention or mistakenly recording something logical and passing it off as something supernatural. We were wrong. Electronic Voice Phenomena, or EVP, is the capture of, what some refer to as 'spirit' voices on audio recording equipment. It is thought that these ethereal voices are imprinted on cassette tapes, the type used with analog recorders (tape recorders), by way of the internal motor noise, as well as through magnetism. It is possible that the voices are also obtained through the microphone and this is why there is success capturing these voices not only with analog recorders, but with digital recorders as well. Many investigators use both types, and research has shown that the same EVP voice sample can be captured by both recorder types. The voices, in almost all cases, are inaudible to the human ear. If there happens to be a time that they are audible to those present when recording, then they are known as a disembodied voice. Usually, it is upon playback of a digital or tape recorder (or other electronic recording device), that the mysterious sounds and utterances are discovered. Frequency is measured in cycles per second, called hertz (Hz). Anything ranging below approximately 300 Hz is considered, by some researchers, too low of a frequency for the human voice to attain. When this is the case, we are then able to make a more concise determination regarding the validity of our captures; however, it is best to use extra computer analysis programs, such as spectrum frequency analysis, in conjunction with Hz level frequency analysis, for a more precise determination. This is a visual process as much as it is an audible one. All technicality aside, it takes nothing more than a tape recorder and some patience to discover something that cannot be explained rationally...not yet. It took our own experimentation with EVP to realize that some form of communication is taking place. It is the one area in paranormal research that we feel holds significant evidence of the possibility of the existence of another conscientiousness; however, whether the voices originate from the dead or not, is unknown, but, the fact remains that the voices are there, and these voices sometimes respond with different emotion to our questions, comments and actions. It must be stressed, though, that the majority of seasoned EVP experimenters agree in opinion: the mysterious utterances derive from the dead. |
