Audio editing software for EVP  analysis
Wave Pad
Wave Pad is a free  program
and one that we have found to
be of great use when
uploading and analyzing
audio captures. Highly
recommended.
Audacity
Although not as easy to
navigate as Wave Pad, and
resembling Adobe Audition
quite a bit, Audacity is a
great,
free program for EVP
analysis.
Acoustica
This program is used by many
researchers and the full
program is not as highly
priced as other's. Acoustica 4.0
comes with a free trial
download version.
Audio software for analysis and editing can be useful for EVP but it's a
good idea to use caution when using these programs. In many cases, EVP
captures only require "light" editing or no editing at all and are best heard
in their "raw" or unedited versions. Too much tampering can alter the the
true nature of the clips, resulting in a "robotic", unnatural sound. Of
course, it is up to the technician to decide what is best; this when
experience is extremely helpful.

It's a good idea to first become familiar with recording and gain a strong
knowledge of the software program that best suits you. Luckily, many of
the programs are free or have a free demo version available.
Adobe Audition
Formally known as Cool Edit and one of the very best programs
in audio software, Adobe comes in versions 1.5, 2.0 and now, 3.0.
At first look, the Adobe features are a somewhat intimidating
and take a little getting used to, however it doesn't take long
with practice. The cost is quite high at $349.00, but well worth it
for those who take this type of research seriously. Free trial
download available.
Sony Sound Forge
An excellent, yet pricey sound
editing program for analysis of
EVP. Free demo trials are
available with both the Audio
Studio and Sound Forge 9.
Clear Voice Denoiser
Clear Voice is an editing tool used to filter out
background noise of an audio clip. The demo version
for Clear Voice is free, yet you are only allowed a 30
second time-frame in which to work with your sound
files (sufficient enough time for the majority of EVP).
EVPmaker
EVPmaker is not a software editing
program, but rather a program used in
conjunction with recording for EVP.
EVPmaker generates acoustic "raw
material", dividing recordings of speech
or music into short segments and
playing them back continuously in
random order. The result is 'gibberish'
and can be used as background noise
for EVP recording sessions. The program
is free.
